Why, why is it that I see really badly taken photos from my contacts on Flickr?!
Why is it that people can still take grainy photos via hi-ISO even when they have a fucking desk lamp shining on the subject?!
Why do people abuse flash and use it practically on everything?!
I understand that at some point, most of us have taken really bad photos courtesy of bad lighting, bad focus, wrong shutter speed or aperture, hi/low ISO, etc. But even so! The ones I've seen so far are from people with a thousand photos in their photostream. "Because my camera is crap" is not reason enough! Why someone would take bad photos for months even when using a Canon Powershot is seriously beyond me.
Why would someone use high ISO to compensate for poor lighting (yeah right, even when you have a desk lamp? pish) instead of using a longer shutter speed? Most Canon Powershot cameras are manual or semi-manual cameras, no? Correction: most of the newer cameras are semi-manual cameras, no? Heck, even my old 2.8mp CybershotU camera was manual. And the fact that people have desk lamps is seriously not reason enough for grainy photos.
When you use flash on dolls or toys, the shiny parts become too shiny, like the eyes and lips, shoes, jewellery, etc. Why? Why abuse the flash to such an extent? To compensate for low lighting? Or because you suck with Photoshop and refuse to take photos without flash so you wouldn't see that horrible yellow/blue tint that haunts your photos (just tweak the white balance!) I've never seen Cho-sensei, Wong-sensei, Keith-sensei use their external flash for anything except photographing events and places with horrible light conditions (yet their photos are almost too perfect)
You can use your camera's flash for candid photos with friends and stuff, I don't mind, I think photos like this turn out better with flash anyway, but when people use it for almost everything, I feel sorry for the subject.
I feel better now. I have been suppressing my emotions and thoughts about this for a long time now. Another reason why I don't visit Flickr regularly.
(Cho-sensei, Wong-sensei, Keith-sensei were my high school teachers. They taught me English, Math, Technical Studies. I've always known Wong-sensei is as serious as an arm and a leg when it comes to photography, it was only like, last year or so that I learnt that Cho-sensei and Keith-sensei are interested in photography as well. They must've taken up photography only a few years ago. Still, you got to admit their photos are really professional)
